Health & Sport Studies Programs at Wittenberg
Sport Management
The Sport Management major at Wittenberg provides students with academic preparation and practical training that are required to be successful in various careers in the sport industry, including professional sport, intercollegiate athletics, interscholastic athletics, recreation, or health and fitness. Sport Management is a growing field, one in which employers are now expecting potential employees to have a thorough understanding of the unique aspects of the sport industry and sport business.
The major offers an interdisciplinary approach through exposure to various content areas including business, sociology, economics, and ethics. This program reflects the unique capabilities of Wittenberg University and its strong liberal arts tradition. The courses in the major provide you with knowledge in all of the essential content areas, including sport marketing, management, ethics, and global and cultural aspects of sport. Through initiatives in and out of the classroom, you'll gain the knowledge and skills that are designed to help you succeed.
Exercise Science
Exercise science at Wittenberg provides students with academic preparation and practical training that are required to be successful in various careers in the growing field of exercise science.
Master of Arts in Sport Administration
Wittenberg's Master of Arts in Sport Administration program is designed to provide students with crucial skills and insightful knowledge to become strong leaders in the athletics profession.
Athletic Training Agreement with Ohio University
In the fall of 2019, Wittenberg and Ohio University signed an articulation agreement for students interested in the field of athletic training a pathway to complete their master’s degree. After successful completion of the undergraduate coursework students with a cumulative and science GPA of 3.0 and GRE score of 300 and writing score of 4.0 will be given priority consideration and will not have to apply through the standardized professions admissions portal Athletic Training Centralized Application Service (ATCAS).
Experiential Learning
Experiential learning through field experiences, internships, classroom activities, and case studies are emphasized throughout the curriculum and by our faculty.
Additionally, you will be encouraged to seek out internships and research experiences that match your interests in the field. The Sport Management faculty enjoys working with students in identifying and obtaining these experiences. During your time at Wittenberg, you will have the following experiential opportunities:
Internships
This region of the country offers many opportunities within professional and minor league teams, i.e., Columbus Blue Jackets, Columbus Clippers, Dayton Dragons, Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, etc.; Area high school and college athletic departments; Municipal parks and recreation departments; Private sport facilities, including golf and tennis clubs, health clubs; Marketing and athlete representation agencies; and, Wittenberg's Athletic Department.
Research experience - You have the opportunity to work with Sport Management faculty on research areas that interest you such as sport marketing, branding, sport law, event and facility management.
