Alyssa Hoofnagle, Associate Professor of Mathematics, primarily teaches mathematics courses for both majors and non-majors. She also occasionally teaches statistics courses, and enjoys the different thinking and approaches required for statistics. Her research interests lie primarily in the fields of Lie algebra and combinatorics, and she is currently working on problems involving Lie algebra representation theory, quantum groups, crystalbases, and representations of quantum affine algebras. She is also interested in the intersection of combinatorics, algebra, and statistics, and she hopes to continue to learn more about many areas of mathematics and statistics.
Dr. Hoofnagle earned a B.S. in mathematics from Wittenberg University, and both an M.S. and Ph.D. in mathematics from North Carolina State University. She returned to Wittenberg to join the faculty in 2014 and enjoys giving back to the university in her unique role of alumna and faculty member.
