#WittHistory: Baseball

For the many of you missing spring baseball . . .

One of my favorite Wittenberg photographs is this one from the The Cycle of 1894. It pictures the faculty baseball team, who had defeated the Class of '93 the previous year (and were expected to win again in 1894). They are not clearly identified, but that is Benjamin Prince (manager), seated, front row left. President Ort, not pictured, was one of the umpires. By the way, three of the men in this photo, Professors Linn (chemistry), Heckert (geology), and Weaver (physics), pretty well defined science education at Wittenberg for several decades.

About The Project

With Wittenberg now celebrating its 175th year, and the University unable to hold regular in-person classes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Professor of History Thomas T. Taylor has started circulating several pieces on Wittenberg's history. Some originated in earlier series, either This Month in Wittenberg History or Happy Birthday Wittenberg. Others have their origin in the Wittenberg History Project or in some other, miscellaneous project. Sincerest thanks to Professor Taylor for connecting alumni, faculty, staff, and students through a historic lens.
