Built in 1977, the building was named after Joseph C. Shouvlin, who was a former president of the Baur Brothers Company (a manufacturing company) in Springfield. He worked with President Stoughton to create a center not only for student's academic success, but also for adult success in the workplace.
The building currently houses Wittenberg's Health Center, Counseling Services, the Womyn's Center, and the Offices of Student Development and Residence Life. The Shouvlin Center was previously home to the School of Graduate and Professional Studies, formerly known as the School of Community Education.
A wide range of meeting rooms are available for campus organizations, as well as outside organizations, to utilize.
