Lesotho 2024: Church, Sandwiches & Ponies

Knock Knock
Who's there?
Not me, I'm not home!

To start our day off we decided to go to church and do afternoon pony trekking instead of the all-day hike. We had about a ½ mile hike uphill to the church and were told mass started at 10 (didn't start till 11 so had a lot of time to kill), we thought we were in the wrong church (3 times) and all 13 of us looked crazy (and the children were laughing at us). when we finally found the right church, we sat down when a large bird flew in!!! we walked out of the church to avoid getting killed by the bird (Rosenberg this is a joke). When we were sitting outside, we saw that some local children had caught the bird by the wings mind you and were passing it around plucking the feathers!!! after all of that we finally were ready for the service. The church filled up very quickly because the local boys were coming back from a retreat and everyone came to celebrate. The service was very untraditional to us Americans and focused heavily on music throughout it. it was very cool to be a part of the mass for a short period of time. We had to leave early so we could eat lunch before afternoon pony trekking.

For lunch, we had Sandwiches!! The sandwiches were butter, shredded ham, and shredded cheese. it was very different but in a good way. we also had something that was somewhat like a scone.

After about 1 hour for lunch, 12 people gathered to prepare for the pony trekking (my butt was not ready). After 3 hours, we made it to the cave paints. they were so cool! after the cave paintings, we hiked down to a river and took some cool pics (see our Instagram's after trip). We all decided to name our horses on the way back based on actions (a lot of them did not want to follow directions). Leah's horse decided to be moody and throw a tantrum, so the guides had to pull her along the trail to get her back (Leah named her Tantrum Tina), she decided to stop a lot and mess with the other horses so near the end she was having to be the leader.

At dinner we were celebrating one of the group's members birthdays and the lodge surprised her with a cake for the group, Leah was in charge of cutting the cake and let's just say the pieces weren't proportional and Allison and Leah definitely made a mess, but it still tasted the same (and was very yummy).

To wrap up the day we have a small group chatting and hanging out in the lodge. we miss you all so much and can't wait to see you all when we get back home!!

Leah: Hi Mom, Dad and Anna! I miss you all so much and can't wait to see you when I get home!  Happy Father's day dad can't wait to celebrate you when I get home!!

Anna: Good luck at nationals and kill your solo. LOVE YOU ALL!!!!

Lauren: Hi family! I miss you all so much. Happy Father's Day Dad! I love you all so much and cannot wait to see you all when I get home and show you all of the pictures and tell all the stories.

Make sure you keep slaying the day away!

Bye from Lesotho!

Sounds like a wonderful day.  Just hope the bird was already dead before it got passed around and plucked!  Can't wait to see the photos and hear more about these experiences.
