Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bring my family or friends or meet them there?
No. The GPA grant provides group travel and requires group travel to and from the host country.
Do I need to be vaccinated for Covid-19?
Yes. Given the intensity of our travel plans all group members should strive for a safe approach to infectious disease prevention. Such measures include up-to-date Covid-19 vaccination and masking when traveling in large public spaces such as airports and train terminals (depending on local conditions).
Is there a lot of walking?
Yes. When we are in cities there will be walking and public transportation use. In urban and rural areas there will be walking and standing in indoor and outdoor museum spaces and exhibits.
May I skip Polish language classes or any other lectures or activities I am not interested in?
Our comprehensive itinerary is designed to have much of interest to everyone. Our aim is to better understand the culture, language, history and contemporary situation in Poland, and so participation in the related activities we have planned will be best for the group and for development of your project outputs.
Will I have free time?
Yes. There are weekly reflection days with only group and individual meetings scheduled; the rest of these days (see See Overseas Itinerary and Map) are unscheduled.
How will lodging work? May I have a single room?
Lodging will generally – and almost exclusively – be double-occupancy.
What are the consequences of not completing pre-departure, trip, or post-return activities?
Consequences will vary. If a selected participant does not engage in pre-departure activities, they will not travel with the group. Missing trip activities will affect the development and refinement of short-term curricular projects and, again, is not advised.

Will internet and phone calling be available?
Yes, generally we should have strong cellular service, and free WiFi at all or most locations. Some rural areas may have reduced internet connectivity.
Will I need to bring money or have money available?
Yes. While traveling all breakfasts and many dinners are provided. Lunches and occasional dinner meals are not provided, and those costs must be assumed by the participant. Meals are most often, but not universally, enjoyed as a group. Participants receive a stipend from the grant for teaching-related books and artifacts, but participants should have their own funds for souvenirs and the like.
