Recognizing the important role that families play in each student’s success, Wittenberg is set to welcome parents, siblings, and friends, to campus Sept. 21-23 for the annual Family Weekend.
Open to all Wittenberg students and their families, events for the weekend include the Senior Wine & Cheese, a comedy show, an archaeological dig, art exhibitions, history tours, athletic events, trivia, music and theatre performances, informational sessions, and open classroom sessions.
All members of the Wittenberg and Springfield communities can also take part in the annual Crop Walk or head downtown for Springfield’s CultureFest.
Weekend activities begin with registration from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21. Other Friday events include the men’s soccer team taking on Kenyon at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Family Weekend Comedy Show at 9 p.m. at Post 95 inside the Benham-Pence Student Center.
The comedy show, hosted by the Union Board, will feature comedians Sara Schaefer and T. Murph. Schaefer is the former co-host of MTV’s late-night show Nikki & Sara Live and is a critically acclaimed stand-up comedian, writer, and producer. Currently based in Los Angeles, she won two Emmy awards for her work at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. T. Murph is an internationally known comedian who has been featured on such national syndicated shows as Chicago Fire, Comedy Central’s Key & Peele, and the 2014 ReBoot of BET’s ComicView.
Saturday’s schedule of events begins with registration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a special archaeological dig at the Columbia Street Cemetery Project from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Other Saturday events include open houses and information sessions at various sites around campus, Lunch on the Lawn from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. across from Recitation Hall, the women’s soccer team vs. Wooster at 1 p.m., a theatre and dance showcase at 1 p.m. at Chakeres Memorial Theatre, and the Senior Wine & Cheese from 4-6 p.m. at the Benjamin Prince House. The night continues with trivia at Founders from 6:30-8 p.m., football vs. Kenyon at 7 p.m., and performances by Pocket Lint, Just Eve, and the Wittmen Crew from 8-9:30 p.m. at Post 95.
CultureFest 2018 will also take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and features music, dance, food, and fun at the plaza downtown. For more information on CultureFest, go to https://springfieldohio.gov/culturefest/
Family Weekend will conclude on Sunday with a worship service at 11 a.m. in Weaver Chapel, a Family Weekend brunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Center Dining Room (CDR) inside the student center, field hockey vs. Kenyon at noon, and the Crop Walk beginning at 2 p.m.
The Crop Walk is a three-mile walk to raise funds and awareness to fight hunger locally and globally. Registration is at 1:30 p.m. on Alumni Way.
