III. Finding Journal Articles
Guidelines on how to distinguish scholarly from popular articles
To find articles:
America: History and Life - "U.S. and Canadian history, prehistory to present".
JSTOR - contains lots of historical sources. JSTOR stands for Journal STORage,
and it may not provide the full text of articles from the most recent 2 to 5
years depending on publisher agreements.
New York Times - Historical - Electronic full text of the New York Times from its
inception in 1851 through 2007.
Readers' Guide Retrospective - Provides references to articles in popular American
magazines, 1890-1982. Even though electronic full text may not be available,
we have many of these periodicals in print downstairs.
For other ideas, see the full List of Indexes and Databases, with nearly 200 database options.
To locate journals:
At Wittenberg: Search Journals the Library Has,for a list of magazines and journals that Wittenberg owns, both print and electronic. At other academic libraries: Request by filling out an Search the Torch or Wittenberg Magazine
Items from archives or special collections can usually be made available after noon the business day after you place your request.
