Want to learn how to navigate Wall Street? Join us for the next Why Witt? Experience, May 2, when Charles Giffin, Wittenberg class of 2000, shares his expertise on trading and financing for investor clients. The event begins in-person at 7 p.m. in Founders Pub, located on the lower level of Benham-Pence Student Center.
Giffin, who joined the Wittenberg’s Board of Directors in 2023, currently serves as managing director and head of the public finance group at J.P. Morgan in New York. In this capacity, he oversees debt issuance and lending for state and local municipalities and non-profits, including healthcare and higher education. He also oversees trading and financing of municipal bonds for investor clients.
A double major in economics and management at Wittenberg, the Youngstown, Ohio, native went on to earn his M.B.A. from New York University with a concentration in finance. Giffin, who previously served on the Wittenberg Alumni Association Board, currently resides in Cos Cob, Connecticut, with his wife, Blake Giffin, and their two boys.
As a student at Wittenberg, Giffin served as president of Student Senate, was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, participated in Senior Circle, and was inducted into the Mortar Board honorary.
The brainchild of entrepreneurs Timmy McCarthy, class of 2002 and Wittenberg’s first-ever Professional in Residence, and John “HUD” Hudson, business owner, friend, and former classmate, Why Witt? debuted in summer 2023. The program airs in front of a live studio audience once a month. Featured guests are Wittenberg alumni, who also agree to mentor a current Wittenberg student following their participation in the program.
Why Witt? asks the following primary questions of all its guests: what led them to Wittenberg; what happened while they were here; and how did they navigate the path after leaving Wittenberg? Each show is approximately one hour – 50 minutes for conversation and 10 minutes for audience questions. A link to listen will be posted on the program’s YouTube channel after each conversation, as well as on Spotify. Contact information for connecting with the Why Witt? creators can also be found on the program’s website here.
