His role as library director involves overseeing all staff and operations of Thomas Library. As a librarian his goal is to help people find the information they need to be successful and as director he has worked to improve the physical environment of the library to make it a space that students want to visit. He has served as the Campus Coordinator for the Wittenberg Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa for a number of years and enjoys the interactions with students in this role.

He has been active with the American Library Association (ALA) and the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), serving most recently on the ACRL Board of Directors and on the ALA Council as the ACRL Divisional Councilor. He has chaired, and served on,  numerous committees for ACRL and served as chair of the ACRL Community and Junior College Libraries Section and the ACRL College Libraries Section. Another professional interest is library architecture and how the design of library buildings have affected the services provided by the library.

He has long-standing interest in history, including the history of baseball and basketball, and in music, focusing mainly on popular music from the 1920s to today including rock ‘n’ roll, country, Celtic, Americana, blues and most recently jazz. He enjoys attending live music performances and baseball games. A Detroit Tigers fan, he has seen major league baseball games in every major league baseball stadium except Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., the New York Mets, Toronto, Arizona, Seattle and Minnesota, not to mention a few that are no longer in existence.
