Perspective

Just a small reflection written on my flight to Atlanta. My favorite part of a flight is the instant when the plane breaks through the first layer of clouds and skims along the tops of the cotton tufts. At that moment, I find myself separated from the world below. I am still close enough to Earth to see the details, yet far enough away to fully understand the scale and perspective of things. This is, of course, when I often find myself spinning into an existential crisis as I ponder the meaning of life. However, most of all, I feel at peace. When you fly above the clouds, everyone is evened out. Class, race, gender, orientation, political affiliation, and so on, are wiped away. People are simply people. We are finally one. We are all the same. An incredible sense of calm washes over me as we break the first cloud bank. And so, at 32,000 feet above the ground, I find myself ready to take on all these next four weeks will throw at me. I'm open and excited to experience the joys and sorrows, the freezing nights and beautiful days, the hearty laughter and surreal struggles. I am open and ready.
