Thank You, Veterans

Walter StittWith gratitude for their service and bravery, Wittenberg salutes all its veterans. We give a special shout-out to 98-year-old Walter Stitt ’63 ’65S (right), a World War II Army veteran who served as a loader and gunner in the Sherman tanks, earning two Purple Hearts for being wounded twice as his division battled across France and Belgium into Germany. He recently received the French Legion of Honor for helping to liberate France from Nazi occupation.


Fighting Fires

Olivia LawrencePitching tents, digging latrines, wielding a chainsaw, and traveling by smokejumper plane were all part of a typical work day this past summer for Olivia Lawrence, class of 2023, as she participated in the first-ever all-women conservation corps fire crew in Alaska hosted by the National Park Service.


Demons and Ghost Tours

Travis ProctorTravis Proctor has turned his fascination with demons into his first scholarly book, Demonic Bodies and the Dark Ecologies of Early Christian Culture, published by Oxford University in May. To challenge his students to think about what "haunts" our culture, the assistant professor of religion takes his students on a local ghost tour each fall.


Sophomore Earns 2022 Cornett Scholarship

Jake MooreJake Moore, class of 2024 from Zanesville, Ohio, was named the 2022 recipient of The Claudia E. and Charles F. Cornett Creative Teaching Merit Scholarship, established by the Cornetts to provide an annual tuition award to a Wittenberg junior or senior majoring or minoring in the department of education and seeking teaching licensure.


Greek Week 2022

The Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils recently hosted Greek Week activities for the Wittenberg community, including Trick or Treat with the Greeks, Broomball at The Chiller, and the Lip Sync Battle dance competition. View photos here.

Alumni Award Nominations

Wittenberg alumni are making an impact in everything they do, both in their careers and their communities. The Alumni Association recognizes and celebrates outstanding alumni during an annual awards ceremony every Homecoming weekend. Alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends of Wittenberg are invited to nominate alumni deserving of recognition. There are no restrictions on the number of nominations a person may submit, and people submitting nominations do not need to be graduates of Wittenberg University. Nominations are due by Jan. 7, 2023.
