Honors ConvocationHonors Convocation

Wittenberg celebrated the achievements of students and faculty during the annual Honors Convocation in Weaver Chapel, April 14. Parker Hayes, Cincinnati, Ohio, was named Alma Mater, and Branden Nicholas, Oak Park, Michigan, was named Alma Lux. Alumni Board President Laurice R. Moore ’95 presented the 2023 Alumni Association Award for Distinguished Teaching to Professor of Biology, Department Chair, and Pre-Health Advisor Matthew Collier '94. Erin Hill, professor of practice in education, received the Omicron Delta Kappa Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award, while Emily West, professor of practice in business & economics, was presented with the Academic Advisor of the Year Award.

Celebrating the value of learning outside of the classroom, Wittenberg hosted its 11th annual Student Leadership Awards this past week. The event honored student organizations and advisors, celebrated diversity, health, and wellness, highlighted contributions to spiritual life, and recognized the University’s unsung heroes.

Answering the call to a renewed interest in the public health sector following the COVID-19 pandemic, Wittenberg will begin enrolling students in its recently approved public health major for the Fall 2023 semester. With this new addition, Wittenberg becomes the only liberal arts college in Ohio to offer a public health major.

Following current trends in the United States and abroad, Wittenberg recently added a new major in international business beginning this spring. Students who major in international business are attractive to employers working in the global economy.


International Film Series GraphicGlobal Connections

The department of world languages and cultures and the Language Learning Center are co-hosting an International Film Series from April 17-20, in the Ness Family Auditorium inside Hollenbeck Hall. The free event, which is open to the public, will screen films in Mandarin Chinese, German, Russian, and Spanish languages, all with English subtitles.


Religious Literacy Summer Workshop

The department of religion is excited to offer a special four-day, on-campus summer workshop for K-12 teachers on the topic of religious literacy in today’s classrooms, June 6-9, 2023 in Springfield, Ohio. The workshop will be facilitated by Travis Proctor, assistant professor of religion at Wittenberg, and Matthew Hotham, assistant professor of religious studies at Ball State University. While their paths didn’t always cross during their days at Wittenberg, Vinny Del Giudice '80 and Peter Newcomb '82 shared a common thread on campus that led them to stellar careers in news media. Both currently employed by Bloomberg News, Del Giudice is a regular voice on Bloomberg Radio, while Newcomb serves as an executive editor.
